چکیده
Cenchrus longispinus (Hack.) Fernald (Poaceae), as a weed, is native of America, but has also been introduced in other countries including Iran in the recent years. In this study, karyotypic features in one population of this species was studied. As such, microscopic slides of root tip meristem cells were prepared using the classical squash technique and aceto-iron-hematoxylene staining. The chromosome number in this species was 2n=34 (x=17). Total length, the longest, the shortest and the mean length of chromosomes were 13.07, 1.08, 0.52 and 0.77 ± 0.12 μm, respectively. The karyotype, with the formula of 16m+1sm (16 metacentric and one submetacentric chromosome in a haploid set) without any satellite chromosomes, is classified as 1B according to the Stebbins method. Thus it could be considered as a wild and primitive species with a relatively symmetrical karyotype.

In the framework of collection and determination of coastal sand dune plants of S Caspian Sea in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces (N Iran), a new species of the family Poaceae,Cenchrus longispinus (Hack.) The Buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris L., Poaceae) is one of the most important pasturage grasses due to its high productivity and good forage qualities. This species possess a high adaptability to bioclimatic constraints of arid zones and may be used for the restoration of degraded arid ecosystems. Tunisian populations present three ploidy levels (4x, 5x and 6x) with a basic chromosome number x=9...

As part of the preparation for a comprehensive online flora of Pacific oceanic islands, numerous taxonomic changes have been necessary, primarily due to a new wealth of global molecular phylogenetic studies on genera that include Pacific islands species. In order to compile an accurate checklist of the Pacific island flora with up-to-date taxonomies, we are moving several species to their curre...

Apomixis, or clonal propagation through seed, is a trait identified within multiple species of the grass family (Poaceae). The genetic locus controlling apomixis in Pennisetum squamulatum (syn Cenchrus squamulatus) and Cenchrus ciliaris (syn Pennisetum ciliare, buffelgrass) is the apospory-specific genomic region (ASGR). Previously, the ASGR was shown to be highly conserved but inverted in mark...
متن کاملIdentification of species-specific RAPD markers in genus Cenchrus.
Cenchrus is an important component of major grass cover of world. Similar to the other major tropical grasses most of the species in genus Cenchrus are also apomictic in nature hence correct and precise identification of accessions and species are problematic and dubious. In the present study 187 decamer oligonucleotide primers were tested for PCR-based DNA amplification of six prominent specie...
